Divisionals and All Stars
There are two separate end-of-season meets in the ODSL. One is a meet for which swimmers must qualify (All-Stars on July 31 at South Riding), the other is for swimmers who do not qualify for All-Stars (Divisionals on July 24 at Lansdowne). Swimmers will participate in only one of these meets – they cannot participate in both.
All-Stars: Swimmers qualify for the All-Stars meet by swimming a time that is equal to or better than the league-established cut time in one or more events. If a swimmer qualifies for All-Stars in 2 or more events, he/she must swim in All-Stars. If a swimmer qualifies for All-Stars in only 1 event, he/she has the choice to swim that one event in All-Stars or swim in other events (not the one in which he/she qualified) in Divisionals.
Divisionals: Swimmers who do not qualify for the All-Stars meet or who qualify in only one event and choose to forfeit their All-Star position swim in Divisionals.
Both of the end-of-season meets will have the same events: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and the individual medley (IM). The maximum entries allowed per swimmer in either meet will be 2 events from freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Swimmers may also swim in the IM as an additional entry which will allow for a total of 3 events per swimmer.
All-Star qualifying times have been established by the league and have been posted on the Lansdowne Lightning website. In addition, in the meet results files posted on the website, you will see a note “ALL*” next to a swimmer’s time if he/she has qualified for All-Stars in that particular event.
Volunteer Information
Click HERE for Volunteer Job Descriptions.
Membership of the Lansdowne Lightning includes volunteer responsibilities. All families who are members of the Lansdowne Lightning must commit to and fulfill a minimum number of volunteer roles during the season. If a family does not meet the minimum requirements outlined below, swimmers from that family will not be eligible to participate in Lansdowne Lightning events, including swim meets, during the season.
Families will have the option to volunteer for roles in which they will work at swim meets or for committee positions which tend to meet and work during the week (not during meets).
A listing of meet-related roles and committees, and associated descriptions, will be posted on the team’s website, www.LansdowneLightning.com.
The Lansdowne Lightning and/or the Old Dominion Swim League will provide training for meet-related jobs.
Each family must register to work a minimum of three (3) meet-related jobs or one (1) committee role prior to the start of the season.
-
On May 22, 2010, online registration for roles will open up for all families.
-
Each family is expected to register for at least three (3) and no more than four (4) meet-related roles, or one (1) committee position by June 5, 2010.
-
Failure to register for the minimum requirement by June 9, 2010 will result in swimmers being ineligible for Time Trials on June 12, 2010.
-
Ineligible swimmers will remain ineligible for all future events until the minimum requirement is met. Note that meet entries close 48 hours prior to each meet, so in order for a swimmer to become eligible, the minimum commitment requirement must be met at least 72 hours prior to the meet.
Each family must work a minimum of three (3) meet-related jobs or one (1) committee role during the season.
-
If you register for a role, it is your responsibility to find a replacement if you are unable to attend.
-
If you fail to find a replacement or do not show for your role, swimmers from your family will not be eligible to compete in the next meet in which they are scheduled to swim.
